Another low-key set of award winners......

The trice-decorated First Lady, suited & booted, in Westminster Hall on Tuesday evening

I am not a man easily impressed (contrary to all rumours), and when Ugo Foods won Watford & North West London Small Business of the Year 2006, I was pleased for the First Lady, but not overly ecstatic. However, from small acorns do large oak trees grow, and after having come 5th in the Sunday Times Best Small Businesses to Work For awards earlier this month, Ugo Foods are now officially Good Eggs, as they were amongst the 12 UK winners of the inaugural Good Egg awards, no less, presented by Compassion in World Farming. The award ceremony was at the Houses of Parliament last night, with the guest of honour being Ben Bradshaw MP, Minister of State ( Local Environment, Marine and Animal Welfare). The First Lady received the award (and made a short speech without notes) on behalf of Ugo Foods and in front of a very proud husband after Google had received their award and just before Microsoft.

Which was nice.

32 today

Guess who?

The First Lady

Many happy returns of the day to the First Lady, who is 32 years young today. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, I am delighted to reproduce a picture that the Vice Captain of Boats kindly did of your Chairman & First Lady on the occasion of her recent visit with the Secretary. If you look closely enough, you will not only spot the Chairman’s splendid pink Boden cords, but also the different colours in Liz’s dyed hair which Daisy spotted most astutely. She’s a clever girl, you know, but what more would you expect?

Due to pressures of work, we shall be celebrating quietly this evening with a bucket full of seafood and a bottle of cooking Bollinger. Well, you’re only 32 once, aren’t you?

You must be very proud

Borehamwood's finest pasta manufacturer

A proud Chairman and the award-winning First Lady in her party frock

I am delighted to report that the First Lady's employer, Ugo Foods, was awarded 5th place in the “Sunday Times Best Small Business to Work For” awards yesterday evening in Battersea Park. Liz was understandably delighted, and arrived home yesterday evening in a state of “euphoria”, brandishing a supplement in which she is quoted and on whose cover a photograph of her employer appears, wrapped in noodles made by the First Lady herself.

Read all about the delights of Ugo Foods in the Sunday Times this Sunday. And yes, I am very proud.
